Retrospect of Vasily Vereshchagin

A famous XIX century Russian artist, ethnographer, traveler and pacifist. New Tretyakov Gallery in Krymsky Val opens a comprehensive retrospect of the master’s best painted and graphic works. The works are showcased by series dedicated to the artist’s military expeditions and travels: the Turkestan, Balkan, Indian series, “Russian North,” the Japanese series. A contemporary of Leo Tolstoy he enjoyed equal world fame and was nominated to Nobel peace prize.
