What you can try at the dinner
Borsch – a soup made with beetroot and other vegetables, like carrot, potato, cabbage. Base is meat broth. Can be cooked vegetarian at request. Best served with sour cream.
Pelmeni - dumplings of Russian cuisine which consist of a filling wrapped in thin, unleavened dough. Filling is usually meat (pork, beef, mutton); can be cooked with vegetarian filling at request (potato, spinach, etc). Best served with sour cream.
Blini - Russian pancake traditionally made from wheat or (more rarely) buckwheat flour. Best served with sour cream, salmon, butter, honey and jam and many other garnishes.
Beef Stroganoff - Russian dish of sautéed pieces of beef served in a sauce with sour cream. From its origins in mid-19th-century Russia, it became popular, with considerable variation from the original recipe. Each household has their own way of cooking it.
Pozharski cutlets - a breaded ground chicken or veal patty. A distinct feature of this cutlet is adding butter to minced meat which results in an especially juicy and tender consistency. The dish was created in the beginning of the 19th century in Russia.
Assorted pickles and herring – sauerkraut, pickled cucumbers, tomatoes, garlic, onions, apples. Assorted Sweets and deserts – ginger bread made of rye-bread and honey, called pryanik; marshmallow made of whipped apple puree and sugar, called zefir; pirozhki - individual-sized baked or fried buns stuffed with a variety of fillings, and many others.
Soft beverages - water, kvass, 'mors' a berry juice based drink. Liquor - vodka, nalivka (honey or berry based alcoholic drinks), local beer or wine. All on the house.
